There is a bed
soft with our heat,
the hollow of your body
still warm when you rise.

There is a bed
where breath and skin
entangle like ivy,
night’s membrane pressing
against our joined shadows.

There is a bed
where the air speaks of salt,
where the sheets remember
how we burned,
how we moaned.

There is a bed
where we sweat past sleep,
our dreams slick with touch,
the scent of our hours
thick in the dark.

There is a bed
where fever shook me.
You brought cool water,
the candle bent,
the air grew rank.

There is a bed
where you sleep tonight,
eyes tight, breath shallow,
my lips on your throat.

You shiver.

You murmur my name.

My hand on your chest
longs for your heartbeat.

For I have none.

They say crimes of passion leave the strongest imprint. I felt that while reading. Hauntingly beautiful.

Thats cool. I wasn’t sure how the lover died, but it being as the result of a crime of passion makes it all the more horrific.

I guess I went dark. But one could argue it’s still pretty dark no matter how the lover passed on. To go from imprinting passion all the way to ghostly kisses and no heart is pretty striking. It’s stayed with me all day in a good way, though.

I agree. Any relationship between the living and the dead is pretty dark. That darkness could be either romantic or abject (or anywhere in between).
Thank you for your thoughts. They are always very welcome.

I love that balance, how the same darkness can feel romantic or tragic depending on the light it’s seen in. Thank you for the thoughtful conversation.

I found this poem to be very erotic, you are very good in this form. Your rhythm is natural and tip-toes across your keyboard. Your imagery fantastically hypnotizing. Kudos my friend!

Thank you Heather. Thats a fine compliment as I admire the structure/rhythm in your own work.
